THE ARTIST: SAINT KYRIAKI
(Katie Elizabeth Chonacas)
SAINT KYRIAKI is a multidisciplinary
contemporary artist, visionary, and performer whose work operates at the
profound intersection of behavioral science, spiritual devotion, and cultural
lineage. Splitting her creative practice between the raw, architectural grit of
New York City and the expansive, sun-drenched landscapes of Los Angeles, she
creates tactile visual spaces that serve as physical altars for human
experience.
The Methodology & Medium
Driven by a lifelong, childlike instinct
to create wherever inspiration lands, SAINT KYRIAKI treats improvisation as a
sacred ceremony. Her distinct style bridges high-end graphic modernism with
what she labels "Modern Byzantine" alchemy—a process that subverts standard
materials to uncover higher spiritual frameworks. Her eclectic mediums range
from rapid, intuitive Posca pigment markers and grease pencils executed live in
transit, to complex 3D mixed-media assemblages. She seamlessly fuses industrial
cement and acrylics with deeply personal, sentimental artifacts collected from
her global travels—including raw mineral stones from the Dominican Republic,
analog Polaroid scraps, and authentic ceramic house-number tiles brought back
from the shores of Mykonos.
Lineage, Faith, and Neuroscience
Rooted heavily in her Greek-American
heritage, SAINT KYRIAKI’s work is a continuous exploration of belonging and
cosmic alignment. Her canvas surfaces frequently preserve sacred Palm Sunday
crosses—meticulously saved across decades by her mother and passed down to be
permanently elevated into fine art. Simultaneously, her work investigates the
intricate boundaries of neuroscience and behavioral functioning. Inspired by
sudden, unexplained seizures she experienced and triumphed over as an infant,
her sharp, lightning-bolt geometries visualize the overstimulated human brain,
transforming personal medical history into an electric, graphic triumph. Her
creations are intentionally infused with brilliant color palettes and
hand-written word poetry, designed to break down what no longer serves the
soul, dismantle judgment, and broadcast a pure wave of joy that brightens the
daily space of the viewer.
Through paint, texture, and reverence, SAINT KYRIAKI
reminds us that the primary purpose of life is to capture fleeting earthly
energy—ensuring that our individual truths can live on, permanently archived
under universal law.
